Prices, Inclusions, and Booking – What to Expect
When booking at the Hammerwirt, guests receive a clear promise of service: The Hammerwirt breakfast is included in all rates, as is free Wi-Fi in rooms and public areas. Many room categories – such as the Wirtshauszimmer or the ZITAS Rooms – feature a balcony or terrace; standard double rooms are located partly in the main building and partly in the annex "Alte Schmiede." Family rooms offer two separate sleeping areas, which is especially practical for vacations with children. For longer stays or more living comfort, larger units in the Alte Schmiede are available. On other days, a self-service refrigerator in the lobby provides hotel guests with snacks and drinks; ice cream sundaes and refreshing lemonades complement the offerings. This contemporary mix of service and self-service allows for uncomplicated provisions even with late arrivals or after a day of excursions. Check-in and check-out follow clear time windows: The reception is usually staffed in the afternoons; arrivals are expected from around 4:00 PM, and contactless access via key safe is possible upon request. Reviews and Experiences – Why the Hammerwirt Has So Many Regular Guests
Guest feedback has been consistently positive over the years. On Google, the Hammerwirt achieves a high recommendation rate with around 4.5 out of 5 stars, based on several hundred reviews. Recurring points of praise include the friendly, personal team, cleanliness, the plentiful breakfast, and the special location with the natural swimming lake. On Booking.com, a guest score of around 8.5/10 (with a high number of ratings) reflects a similarly good picture: Many highlight the selection of regional products, homemade elements like smoothies, bread, or casseroles, as well as the overall good value for money. Families traveling with children emphasize the easy access to the water, the sunbathing area, and the relaxed atmosphere – ideal for winding down after hikes or bike tours. Business travelers praise the reliable accessibility via the A8 and the option to dine or have a drink in the ZITAS Lounge & Bar in the evenings. Some reviews note that the property is located on a thoroughfare – this note serves to set realistic expectations; at the same time, many emphasize that the rooms have been modernized and the layout of the grounds with orchard and lake creates a peaceful balance. The establishment also shows transparency regarding the cleaning rhythm: Housekeeping takes place regularly every two days, and fresh towels or additional items are available upon request at any time. This approach – open communication, offering pragmatic solutions, and delivering regional quality – explains why many guests book again and describe the Hammerwirt as their "home base" in the Chiemgau.
Directions, Parking, and Public Transport – How to Arrive Quickly and Stress-Free
Getting there is straightforward: From Munich or Salzburg, the A8 leads directly into the Chiemgau. From the Traunstein–Inzell–Siegsdorf East exit (No. 112), it is just under 6 kilometers to Hammer; the Hammerwirt is located on the left side, slightly set back, and is well signposted. Those arriving by train should head to Traunstein station and switch to the RVO bus line 9526 (Traunstein–Inzell–Bad Reichenhall) in front of the building. At the Hammer-Kirche stop, guests disembark practically opposite the hotel – the path with luggage could hardly be shorter. Parking is free for hotel guests: There are private parking spaces directly at the property, making planning for rental cars or arrival with one's own vehicle easier. For travelers with motorhomes, designated parking spaces are available nearby; relevant parking directories list up to four spaces, usually free of charge and with a maximum stay of about two nights – often linked with a request to dine at the inn. Cyclists benefit from a lockable bike room at the property; secure parking options are mentioned for motorcycles. Due to the location on the B306 and the proximity to the A8, travel times are short: for example, about 15–20 minutes to Lake Chiemsee, around half an hour to Salzburg – optimal conditions for day trips that maximize vacation time. Those traveling sustainably can use the Chiemgau Card for regional mobility and discounts; in the town centers of neighboring villages, there are also time-limited free parking options available. Tip: For late arrivals, it is advisable to inform the hotel briefly in advance so that the key safe can be organized and a parking space in front of the house can be reserved if necessary.
Rooms, Amenities, and Natural Swimming Lake – Cozy Living, Relaxed Swimming
About 23 rooms are spread across the main building and parts of the building such as the "Alte Schmiede." Guests can choose between Wirtshauszimmer (often with a balcony or terrace facing south), the modernized ZITAS Rooms in the main building, standard double rooms without a balcony, and family rooms with two separate sleeping areas. All categories come with a bathroom (shower/WC), TV, and free Wi-Fi; many units feature seating areas, safes, and ample storage space. Those who value fresh air and sunsets prefer rooms with west or south orientation. The centerpiece for summer days is the natural swimming lake next to the main building. It was created in 1997, covers about 1,600 square meters of water surface, and utilizes thoughtful planting for biological self-cleaning – without chlorine. A swimming area of up to around 2.20 meters deep, approximately 20 × 15 meters, invites for sporty laps; separate shallow water zones make bathing more relaxing for children. Wooden walkways, a sunbathing area in the shade of old fruit trees, and a private sun deck create space for reading, dozing, or playing. Right next door, the ZITAS Lounge & Bar provides the perfect refreshment: from homemade gentian lemonade to Bavarian beers and selected German gins and rums. Opening hours vary seasonally; in the warm season, ZITAS is open several days a week in the late afternoon and evening, with the kitchen usually closing around 8:30 PM. On restaurant rest days, a self-service offering in the lobby with drinks and light meals is available. Families appreciate high chairs and plenty of space in the outdoor area; reading lounges and covered outdoor areas provide alternatives in changeable weather. Conveniently, the digital guest companion provides information about the property, and breakfast in the morning focuses on regional products with fresh baked goods, dairy products from the area, and small homemade extras that are often praised in reviews. This way, the room quickly becomes a relaxed base for hikes, bike tours, swimming excursions, or cultural programs in the region.
Celebrations, Conferences, and Events – From the Fireplace Lounge to Exclusive Use
The Hammerwirt is much more than just a stopover: With the ZITAS Lounge & Bar and a modern conference room, the property has become a versatile event location. For meetings, workshops, and seminars, there is a bright room with a fireplace corner and a window front to the natural swimming lake; it is suitable for about 5 to 50 people depending on the seating arrangement and is equipped with modern media technology. For larger plans, the ZITAS Lounge & Bar can be booked exclusively – events for up to around 120 people can be realized here, from milestone birthdays to company summer parties and weddings with outdoor ceremonies and sundowners by the lake. The culinary range extends from relaxed get-together formats with finger food and drinks on the terrace to multi-course menus. The team develops individual concepts with organizers and cooperates with regional partners for supporting programs if needed. The venue is also suitable for dance and music formats, as shown by past events like a "Hot Latin Party," where dancing took place either outdoors on the wooden terrace or indoors in the ZITAS Lounge, depending on the weather. For organizers, accessibility is a strong argument: Guests can quickly reach the venue from Munich, Rosenheim, Traunstein, or Salzburg via the A8; parking at the property alleviates logistical pressure. Those staying multiple days benefit from the room selection and short distances between the conference room, lake, and lounge. Thanks to the location, a natural "resort feeling" is created – focused work during the day, relaxing by the water in the evening, and when it gets chilly, moving to the fireplace. The combination of alpine greenery, easy access, and flexible spaces makes the Hammerwirt an authentic alternative to classic conference hotels.
History and Special Features of the Property – Tradition You Can Feel
The property is considered one of the traditional inns and accommodations in the Chiemgau – its history dates back over 700 years. This long history continues to shape its self-understanding: regional roots, thoughtfully crafted cuisine, and a place that is open to both locals and travelers alike. At the same time, the host family Hörterer has set modern accents in recent years: The opening of the ZITAS Lounge & Bar (2017) created new opportunities for evening enjoyment and events with a view of the lake; the room categories have been gradually refreshed, expanding the range from simple, functional double rooms to family-friendly units. Charming are the small insights from daily life at the property: a bar selection with over 20 German gins and other spirits for connoisseurs, thousands of homemade dumplings that creatively appear on the menu each year, and a conscious approach to cleaning chemicals that significantly reduces the amount used – living sustainability without making a big show of it. The concept of "International Casual Food from Regional Ingredients" describes the style: down-to-earth, contemporary, with seasonal products from the surrounding area. Those enjoying a sundowner in summer while gazing over the natural swimming lake experience this connection between past and present very directly: old fruit trees, wooden walkways, the splashing at the shore – and a house that offers many harmonious retreats with its fireplace lounge, reading areas, and covered outdoor spaces. Organizationally, the Hammerwirt is also up to date: The digital guest companion reduces paper, consolidates information, and facilitates processes without replacing personal contact. This mixture ensures that a one-night stay often turns into a longer visit or the next celebration.
Location, Leisure, and Excursions – Experience Chiemgau Between Lake Chiemsee and Salzburg
The location in Siegsdorf-Hammer is ideal for exploring the region flexibly. To the west lies Lake Chiemsee, reachable in about 15–20 minutes depending on the shore section; to the east, Salzburg can be reached in about half an hour – perfect for culture, shopping, or concerts. Right on-site begins the picturesque Chiemgau landscape: walks from the doorstep, easy bike paths for families, but also trail passages for the ambitious in the surrounding foothills of the Alps. Thanks to the Chiemgau Card, numerous attractions are included or discounted: mountain railways like the Hochfelln cable car, baths in Ruhpolding and Inzell, summer tobogganing and climbing offers, or the panoramic roads of the region. A special excursion destination in the immediate vicinity is the Mammoth Museum Siegsdorf, featuring the most complete and best-preserved mammoth skeleton in Central Europe – an exciting piece of earth history with a Stone Age garden and action days, suitable for families as well. Other bathing lakes like Tüttensee, Thumsee, or Weitsee are within pleasant distance for half-day trips. For those who enjoy evening activities, Traunstein, Ruhpolding, or Inzell offer options ranging from breweries to cinemas and seasonal festivals. Back at the hotel, a drink in the ZITAS Lounge & Bar or a dip in the natural swimming lake rounds off the day. Conveniently, with its proximity to the A8, the Hammerwirt can also be used as a base camp for a road trip through the Alpine foothills – morning culture, afternoon lake, evening mountains, and fireplace. For planners, it is important to note: The town center is busy during the day, but the orientation of the grounds creates many quiet zones on the back side by the water. Those traveling with children should pack swim gear; those arriving with bikes can securely park them. This way, the stay becomes an uncomplicated, eventful short vacation – and often the beginning of a return visit.

A very nice hotel. Family-run. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back to explore the region further. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the in-house swimming pond because the weather wasn't nice anymore.

A very cozy, clean, and friendly atmosphere. The Sunday breakfast is particularly noteworthy. Good value for money. Short drive to Chiemsee.

We have been coming to this inn for many years – now in the second generation – and were always completely satisfied in the past. It has long been a place with special quality and personal character for us. However, since the generational change, we have the impression that the standard has dropped a bit. Room service is no longer daily, and we believe the food has also become a bit weaker than before. Not dramatically, but noticeable. Still, we want to emphasize that the overall picture is still good: The location is wonderfully quiet and well-connected, and the swimming pond is a real highlight – especially for families with children. We hope that the development will move upwards again in the future and that the house will return to its old quality.

The food was of very high quality and tasted excellent. The service, a young man from Croatia, was extremely friendly. The atmosphere was very nice, and the beer garden invited you to linger.

Very clean rooms. Great breakfast buffet. Dinner was very tasty. The bathing pond is great with kids in the summer. The Chiemgau card is included, and there are many great options in the area for excursions.
