Food Work by Ratchy transparently indicates that the prices displayed in the online ordering process are takeaway prices. It is also noted that the last order must be placed in time before closing. Due to the staffing aftermath of the pandemic years, the operators reserve the right to adjust the hours situationally. Therefore, the current opening hours are always visible on the website and on-site at the restaurant. Those who prefer a lunch without waiting can order by phone in advance and specify the desired pickup time, which is especially useful during lunchtime between 12:00 and 13:30. For phone inquiries and reservations, the number 0861 909 412 23 is available; alternatively, the contact form can be used if the inquiry is not urgent.
The online order form is optimized for takeaway. For group reservations, a brief coordination by phone is advisable, especially if the terrace is desired or if there are special requests. Guests planning the hotpot experience should inquire in advance: the hotpot is available for four or more people, only by reservation and priced upon request; the team will assist in finding a date and clarifying which meat, fish, and vegetable options will be prepared for the group. Directions and Parking at Rupertistraße 40–42 – Navigate, Arrive, Enjoy
Food Work by Ratchy is located at Rupertistraße 40–42, an address that also houses other shops. Landmarks include the branches of Deichmann and Norma at the same location. The area is well-connected, with access from the city center via the town square and Karl-Theodor-Platz towards Rupertistraße or from the train station area via Haslacher Straße. There are parking spaces directly at the site, which according to parking information are associated with the Norma/Deichmann parking lot. This parking lot offers a four-digit house number equivalence and lists 69 parking spaces without height restrictions, generally free during store opening hours and available for customers. Since these are customer parking spaces, local signage must be observed; depending on the time of day and day of the week, there may be restrictions, such as a maximum parking duration during opening hours.
Additionally, the city of Traunstein offers a wide range of public parking options. In the city center, there are around 700 street parking spaces; the maximum parking duration varies by zone, up to two hours, and in some areas, thirty minutes. Payment is made at parking ticket machines, or alternatively, a parking ticket can be purchased digitally via the Parkster app. This is convenient if you want to extend your parking time flexibly or end it early without having to return to the machines. Since April 1, 2025, there is a special rule in Traunstein: vehicles with an electric license plate can park in public parking spaces for up to three hours free of charge, while still adhering to the respective maximum parking duration. For longer stays, larger parking areas are available, such as the festival ground on Siegsdorfer Straße with many parking spaces, which is usually free to access. Those planning a combined journey by train can park at the Park-and-Ride parking lot Güterhallenstraße; it is open all day, the daily prices are reasonable, and it is particularly suitable for commuters or visitors who want to explore the city center on foot. Overall, the parking situation around Rupertistraße is good, but it is advisable to allow a little extra time on Saturday afternoons, as shopping traffic may be higher.
Seating, Terrace, and Atmosphere – Relaxed Enjoyment Without Wi-Fi and Card Requirement
The development of Food Work by Ratchy is reflected in the design of the dining area: from a small snack bar with eight seats, it has grown into a restaurant with 34 seats indoors, complemented by 26 seats on the terrace. The ambiance is modern, yet influenced by Thai heritage, with many plants and decorative elements. The layout promotes short distances and quick processes without neglecting coziness. On warm days, the terrace is popular, as dishes are served in a calm, airy environment. Guests who prefer outdoor seating should mention this when making a reservation so that the team can plan the placement accordingly. Reviews and feedback repeatedly highlight the pleasant atmosphere, as well as the cleanliness and friendly, attentive service. The concept consciously focuses on slowing down and connection: there is no Wi-Fi, allowing conversations and shared meals to take center stage. This decision is explicitly explained on the website and is part of the restaurant's gastronomic philosophy.
In terms of payment, the team follows a clear, transparent approach: cash payment is accepted. This eliminates the card requirement; guests can settle the bill easily in cash. Those planning to pay in cash are served quickly and do not need a PIN or mobile payment. For families and groups, the combination of fast kitchen service and personal attention is attractive: order, arrive, enjoy – without complicated processes. Overall, this creates a coherent picture of a modern yet down-to-earth Thai gastronomy that focuses on authenticity and freshness without getting lost in formalities. Families with children benefit from the balanced spiciness of many dishes; spicier options are clearly marked, and the team is happy to advise on which options can be adjusted to the desired spiciness.
Hotpot in Traunstein – Cook, Grill, and Enjoy Together
A special highlight of the offering is the Thai hotpot, which is particularly suitable for small groups. The experience can be booked for four or more people, exclusively by reservation and priced upon request. At the table, there is an electrically controlled hotpot that allows for the simultaneous preparation of soup and grilling. The principle: in the center, a broth of choice cooks, while ingredients are grilled on the hot plate. The team provides a pre-selected selection, typically including chicken, pork, and beef, as well as shrimp, fish fillet, squid, along with vegetables and herbs. This creates an interactive evening where each person combines, tastes, and seasons to their liking. The menu includes soup, main course, and dessert; thus, the process is clearly structured without diminishing spontaneity at the table. The format is designed for about ninety minutes; during a previous test dining event, four dates were offered over two consecutive weekends to trial the concept with guests and refine it based on feedback forms. Positive responses emphasize freshness, quality, and the special sense of community.
It is practical that the hotpot is suitable for private enjoyment – from birthday dinners to team nights and family gatherings. To ensure smooth preparation, it is advisable to inquire early with the desired date, time, and number of people. The team will advise on which options are available and which levels of spiciness are sensible. Arrangements for vegetarian or mixed options are also possible. Because seating is limited and the kitchen prepares each component fresh, timely booking is key. Experience shows that a brief phone inquiry shortly before the date improves planning, especially when there is a lot of activity. Guests who are not yet familiar with the concept can get an idea in advance on the website; the summarized notes there explain the process clearly and whet the appetite for the shared cooking and grilling round.
Service, Allergens, and Sustainability – Clear Information, Short Distances, Thoughtful Details
Transparency is a common thread at Food Work by Ratchy. The menu lists allergens such as eggs, fish, shellfish, milk, sesame, sulfur dioxide, peanuts, tree nuts, gluten-containing grains, soybeans, as well as additives like colorings or flavor enhancers, if they may be included. This provides guests with good guidance on which dishes are suitable. For further inquiries, guests can contact the team directly. The kitchen prepares all dishes fresh; due to the short cooking time of vegetables, vitamins and textures are preserved – a principle that has been rooted in Thai cuisine for decades. When purchasing ingredients, the team does not rely on standardized delivery boxes: they make the selection themselves, often from local suppliers and with an eye on organic aspects. This self-responsible purchasing is labor-intensive but pays off in flavor and consistency.
For everyday life, small organizational aids are crucial. Therefore, the restaurant asks for the menu number or letter when ordering to avoid misunderstandings and speed up preparation. Those who want to save on packaging material can bring their own bag; otherwise, a fee of 0.20 euros will be charged. For takeaway, a deposit or environmental contribution may also apply, depending on the packaging. Bonus programs are kept clear and simple: after ten paid meals, one is free, rewarding regular guests. The restaurant consciously forgoes Wi-Fi – an invitation to use the shared time at the table without distractions from devices. Overall, this creates an environment that combines quick, fresh cuisine with human connection. The combination of clear opening hours, reservation options, online order forms, and understandable service information facilitates planning.

Classy! The insider tip and definitely recommended. We haven't been here in a while - and today we could sit on the new terrace. The dishes were very aromatic and visually appealing. We think the price-performance ratio is great. We’ll happily come back and bring friends. Thanks!

The food was good. My highlight was the salad with the shrimp cakes. The dressing was really good. The shrimp cakes were baked a bit too long. I was a bit disappointed with the appetizer; I imagined the tempura shrimp to be a bit different. Overall, though, very solid and tasty.

For me, the best restaurant/bistro in Traunstein. I go there to eat 1 to 2 times a week and have never been disappointed, quite the opposite. Always delicious and the portions are absolutely sufficient. You are always served very kindly and you always get a smile. I really like the ambiance, as well as the self-service concept. It's great that we have such a good location in Traunstein. Keep it up!
