Old Malting House Regensburg | Events & Tickets 2026
The Old Malting House in Regensburg is a cultural center that has successfully transformed from a former industrial property to one of the most prominent event venues in the city. The city council decided in March 1992 to expand, construction began at the end of 1992, and the building was opened as a cultural center in December 1993. Since then, the former malting building has developed into a place that not only hosts concerts but also connects encounters, production, rehearsal work, and gastronomy. Today, programs for very different target groups are created on four floors and in more than 20 rooms, ranging from small club evenings to festival formats. The official house history describes the Old Malting House as a place that has evolved from a simple pub with culture to a cultural center with a wide variety of activities; at the same time, the house has been awarded the APPLAUS venue program award. It is precisely this mix of historical shell, vibrant interior life, and strong anchoring in the district that makes the Old Malting House one of the defining cultural addresses in southern Regensburg. ([alte-maelzerei.de](https://alte-maelzerei.de/de/hintergrund.php))
Program and Events 2026
The program of the Old Malting House is intentionally broad and precisely for that reason highly relevant. On the official program page, the house is described as a place for concerts, parties, cabaret, comedy, theater, readings, and much more; this is supported by the guest and venue, the Old Malting House e.V., the cultural agency Alex Bolland, as well as other independent organizers and cultural creators. This structure explains why the Old Malting House is not limited to a single genre but can accommodate different formats side by side, from club evenings to literary stages. Therefore, those searching for the Old Malting House Regensburg program, events, or tickets do not end up with a static list but with a house that thrives on its diversity. This is also felt in the official appearance of the venue: It explicitly states that there is hardly anything that cannot take place in the malting house. This openness is no coincidence but part of the identity of the house. Especially in a city with a vibrant cultural and music scene, this is a strong unique selling point, as here not only consumption takes place but also curation, planning, and co-designing. ([maelze-regensburg.de](https://www.maelze-regensburg.de/programm/?utm_source=openai))
Particularly strong is the promotion of local bands and the regional scene. Under the name Heimspiel, young regional groups have been given fixed performance opportunities since 2000; since 2005, the format has been running with an expanded concept including additional festivals. According to house information, well over 500 young regional bands have already performed on stage, and the Heimspiel festivals have become a fixed anchor for Regensburg's young talent scene. In addition, formats such as U20 Poetry Slam, summer dance days, small arts festival, and pop culture festival make the house visible not only as a venue but also as a production site. In the Regensburg tourism brochure, the Old Malting House is described as a multi-genre house that realizes around 150 live events annually and regularly conceives new projects and series. So, anyone looking for a place in 2026 where clubs, culture, local talents, and bigger names meet will find an address with real substance and ongoing program work. ([alte-maelzerei.de](https://www.alte-maelzerei.de/de/heimspiel.php))
Tickets, Advance Sale, and Box Office
Those who want to buy tickets for the Old Malting House can find the advance sale directly at the house or online. The official service information states office hours from Monday to Friday between 10 AM and 3 PM; during this time, advance sales and telephone reservations are possible. Tickets for the box office must be picked up at least half an hour before the event starts, which is especially practical for flexible visitors who do not want to plan their evening too tightly. This is typical for a venue that organizes many different event forms: sometimes you decide early for a concert, sometimes spontaneously for cabaret, a reading, or a club evening. That is why it is worthwhile to take a look at the respective ticket page, as the details for each format are documented most clearly there. For regular visitors, it is also interesting that there is a direct connection between advance sales, venue, and team in the house. This makes the processes more personal than in anonymous large halls and ensures that inquiries usually land directly at the right place. ([alte-maelzerei.de](https://www.alte-maelzerei.de/de/tickets.php))
There are discounts for members of the Old Malting House e.V. as well as for students, civil and military service members with appropriate identification. This is a real added value for many visitors, as it quickly results in a price advantage, especially for multiple events in a year. At the same time, it applies: Not every evening is the same, and not every event follows the same scheme. Especially in 2026, stricter visitor checks and adjustments to ticket contingents have been reported publicly in Regensburg, which means that contingents may vary depending on the date. For the search for Old Malting House Regensburg tickets, this means practically that one should not only pay attention to price and start time but also to indications regarding the hall, seating, and possible contingent limitations. Those who book early usually have the best selection and avoid unnecessary stress at the box office. ([alte-maelzerei.de](https://www.alte-maelzerei.de/de/tickets.php))
Directions and Parking around the Old Malting House
By car, the Old Malting House is easily accessible from several directions. The official directions recommend taking the Passau-Regensburg highway to the University exit from outside, then downhill towards the university via Galgenbergstraße and turning left at the intersection into Bischof-Konrad-Straße. From the city center, you drive over the Galgenberger Bridge, past Cinemaxx, and then straight uphill; after about 200 meters, the building is on the right side. This places the location south of the old town and close enough to the center to integrate it well into a concert or theater evening without a long walk or complicated transfers. For many search queries like Old Malting House Regensburg directions or Regensburg Old Malting House parking, this combination of proximity to the city center and clear directions is crucial, as it makes a visit planable and significantly eases orientation. ([alte-maelzerei.de](https://www.alte-maelzerei.de/de/anfahrt.php))
However, when it comes to parking: There are parking options in the immediate vicinity, but explicitly no parking spaces in the courtyard of the Old Malting House. This is important information for anyone arriving by car and who does not want to turn around on site. Those who want to start the evening more relaxed should either come a little earlier or rely directly on public transport. According to the official directions, lines 6 and 10 go to the Haydnstraße stop, from there the venue is easily accessible. Especially for highly demanded events, this option is often the less stressful choice, as you do not have to plan additional time for parking search. The practical recommendation is therefore: For large concerts or busy weekends, it is better to build in a small buffer, check the directions beforehand carefully, and have a plan for the return trip already before the event. This fits well with a house that knows many different audience situations and is therefore dependent on clear visitor information. ([alte-maelzerei.de](https://www.alte-maelzerei.de/de/anfahrt.php))
Rooms, Capacity, and Accessibility
The Old Malting House is spatially much larger than the name of the club room suggests. On the official room page, the house describes the club as the largest event space with 180 square meters, around 200 seats when seated, and about 400 seats when unseated. The city of Regensburg also lists the Underground with up to 150 people and the theater with up to 100 people in its current event venue catalog; the house is complemented by the Cartoon as a smaller bar and bistro area. This makes the location suitable for very different formats: from intimate reading evenings to electronic club nights to cabaret, small concerts, or closed parties. The various room sizes make the Old Malting House particularly attractive for organizers, as the program and audience size can be finely tuned according to the occasion. Those searching for Old Malting House Regensburg capacity, hall, or seating plan should always keep in mind that there is not just one room but several that are used differently. ([maelze-regensburg.de](https://www.maelze-regensburg.de/club/?utm_source=openai))
Accessibility is also well documented and important for the visit. The ticket page explains that the club, underground, and theater are accessible via the courtyard entrance. For access to the club, one should briefly inform the box office so that the door can be opened; there is an elevator for the underground and theater hall. The accessible restroom is located on the first floor and is also reachable by elevator. For people specifically searching for Old Malting House Regensburg accessibility, this is a clear plus. At the same time, the combination of room data and access information shows that the house works flexibly and does not plan with a rigid uniform layout. There is no uniform public seating plan for all formats because events are seated or unseated depending on the room, and the layout adapts to the respective production. This flexibility is precisely what makes the Old Malting House appealing, but it also requires a bit of attention when reading the event description. ([alte-maelzerei.de](https://www.alte-maelzerei.de/de/tickets.php))
History, Heimspiel, and Regional Scene
Historically, the current Old Malting House does not begin with the cultural center but with a longer phase of cultural use. The official background page reports that the Regensburg city council decided to expand in March 1992 and that construction began at the end of 1992. The cultural center Old Malting House was opened in December 1993. Even then, a large stage and hall landscape, a recording studio, group and musician rehearsal rooms, and other rooms for current and future use were ready. Even before the opening, there were events in unrenovated rooms; the current institution is therefore the result of a longer process that has gradually transformed an industrial wasteland into a place of cultural significance. Those who visit the Old Malting House today still feel this change: The industrial character remains visible, but it is overlaid by an open cultural understanding that connects music, word, and scene. ([alte-maelzerei.de](https://alte-maelzerei.de/de/hintergrund.php))
The subsequent development shows why the Old Malting House is more than just a venue for Regensburg. Since 1996, there has been the format Concert of the Year, since 2000 the fixed promotion for regional bands, and since 2001 the poetry slam series, which has given the house profile far beyond the city limits. In addition, small arts festivals, Regensburg Dance Days, Regensburg Pop Culture Festival, and numerous other series have positioned the house as a creative center. In the official anniversary and background texts, around 5,300 live events and more than 1.2 million visitors since the opening are mentioned. In 2017 and 2021, the Old Malting House received the APPLAUS venue award, which further confirms the quality of program planning. For search queries like Old Malting House Regensburg history or Old Malting House Heimspiel, this is exactly what matters: It is not just about a beautiful old building, but about an institution that is rooted in the city and actively shapes the scene. ([alte-maelzerei.de](https://alte-maelzerei.de/de/hintergrund.php))
Bar, Beer Garden, and Renting the Malting House
The Old Malting House includes not only the stage program but also an independent gastronomy with clear usage profiles. The official homepage lists the club, underground, bar, and beer garden as central components. The Cartoon bar can be used for closed events and is particularly suitable for smaller celebrations according to the house description. The beer garden in the courtyard opens in good weather from Tuesday to Sunday from 5 PM, with the warm kitchen starting at 6 PM. There is a natural stage and beach chairs; in summer, smaller performances, DJ formats, and courtyard festivals also take place here. For visitors, this means: The Old Malting House is not only an evening address for concerts but also a summer place with outdoor space, drinks, food, and a significantly more relaxed atmosphere. This mix is interesting for many search queries about Old Malting House photos, bar, or beer garden, as the house can cater to different moods at once. ([maelze-regensburg.de](https://www.maelze-regensburg.de/?utm_source=openai))
Anyone planning an event can inquire and rent the rooms according to the house page, whether for a private celebration or a public concert with admission. This applies to various formats from the club to the Cartoon to other areas, with the specific suitability depending on the occasion, duration, and technical equipment. This mix of rental, gastronomy, and curated cultural program makes the Old Malting House so versatile: During the day or early evening, it is more about terrace, drinks, and food, later about concerts, parties, or cabaret. For organizers, this is attractive because they get a place with existing infrastructure, an experienced team, and clear processes. For guests, it is pleasant because one can celebrate, eat, drink, and experience culture all in one place. Those looking for Regensburg not just as a city but as a vibrant event space will find in the Old Malting House a place with a very broad range of uses and a rare mix of history, character, and practical functionality.
I played here with my band during the event known as Dungeon Fire. It was an honor to be here, spend time with the lovely people that visited and made that night unforgettable for me and my bandmates. It felt like a dream come true. Let us hope it won't be the last time! Regensburg is awesome and die Alte Mälzerei is a blessing for the community. Stay cool, people!

Sauna With a Soundtrack! Alte Mälzerei is the kind of place that asks, "How many people can we legally fit into a toaster oven?" and then immediately ignores the answer. It was so hot inside I’m pretty sure I lost 3 kg just standing still. Small venue? More like cozy if your idea of cozy includes becoming intimately familiar with the sweat patterns of total strangers. That said, the crowd was alive, the vibes were strong, and the music made it feel like a very enthusiastic fever dream. If you like your concerts hot, tight, and slightly dehydrating, this is your place. Would I go back? Sure after installing an internal cooling system. 🧊🍺

If you are looking for a place that shows smaller, independent or alternative bands, plays, poetry slams or anything along those lines, the Alte Mälzerei is the place you want to visit first. As an old malthouse you can imagine the interesting and quirky architecture! Gigs can be held inside and outside depending on the time of year and weather and they have all kinds of drinks there for a reasonable price! I highly recommend looking up what kind of events are upcoming if you happen to be in the area, as it will most definitely be amazing! There is also a small pub adjoint to the Mälzerei (Cartoon) if you want to have a more relaxed evening :)
