English Evening in Traunstein: Dystopias that Reflect Our Present
On Thursday, November 27, 2025, the City Library of Traunstein invites you to an English-language literature evening with Dr. Ludwig Wagatha. Under the theme The Future of Society, the speaker will guide through the major dystopias of Anglophone literature – with original readings and pointed interpretations. Admission is free; a collaboration with vhs Traunstein and the Haywards-Heath Friendship Club.
Brave New World, 1984 and Co.: Canon of Warning Visions
With a critical literary perspective, the evening opens the canon of future concepts: Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, Orwell's 1984, as well as other visions up to late modernity. Style, genre, and narrative will be skillfully elaborated – from surveillance state to biopolitics, from consumer happiness to language domination.
Reading Atmosphere: Original Language, Clear Voice, Subtle Nuances
The original texts unfold their linguistic artistry in the English version. In the quiet, concentrated reading atmosphere of the city library, tone, rhythm, and irony become audible. Thus, a literary experience is created that connects text and voice and allows author encounters on the level of understanding the works.
Context and Discourse: Literature as a Tool for Diagnosing the Present
The evening locates the works in the cultural discourse: How do they criticize power, technology, media, language? What literary quality and narrative techniques grant the books their lasting impact? Technical terms such as focalization, intertextuality, and discourse topics will be conveyed precisely, clearly, and pointedly.
Cooperation for Literature: City Library, vhs, and Friendship Club
Supported by the City Library, vhs, and the Haywards-Heath Friendship Club, the evening combines reading promotion and cultural education. Thus, literature becomes a shared space for thought – accessible, well-founded, and cosmopolitan.
Conclusion: A concentrated evening on the future of society in English-language literature – with original readings, analytical sharpness, and sensual linguistic artistry. Those who love or wish to rediscover dystopias will experience an inspiring introduction and deepen their understanding of style, genre, and significance.
